  • Overview

    The IT Operations Systems Administrator installs, maintains and configures Windows based servers, including the various software and programs that may be installed on those systems. This position focuses on the ongoing administration of Windows Servers, Microsoft IIS, application virtualization, and hardware virtualization systems, supporting the end-user applications and business continuity.

    Responsibilities

    1.       Assumes responsibility for effective maintenance of Windows servers.

     

    1. Maintains Windows servers, installed Services, and Applications.
    2. Responsible for patching and routine maintenance of servers and the software installed on the systems.
    3. Ensures systems are properly monitored by internal monitoring systems such as OpenView.
    4. Maintains hardware, including installation of hardware, hardware repairs, etc. on various servers.
    5. Installs and configures new servers as needed.

    2.       Assumes responsibility for administering various software packages used on servers.

    1. Configures and administers various systems applications, such as Active Directory, LDAP, DHCP, etc.
    2. Installs, configures, and maintains additional software packages required for various functions within the credit union, including third-party applications and applications written by the Programming Department.
    3. Patches software applications.
    4. Administers Microsoft IIS and Apache/Tomcat servers.

    3.       Assumes responsibility for administration of various Application Virtualization systems.

     

    1. Installs, configures, and maintains Virtualization systems such as VMWare VSphere, Citrix Application Virtualization, Citrix Access Gateway, Microsoft App-V, and Terminal Services.
    2. Builds Microsoft infrastructure, including Citrix systems, for business continuity needs.

    4.       Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication, coordination, and working relations with area staff and management.

     

    1. Maintains system documentation, including run-time procedures, fail-over procedures, and on-going maintenance procedures, ensuring the health and stabilities of AFCU Systems.
    2. Keeps management informed of significant problems and of progress attained in reaching established objectives. Provides recommendations for establishing new and more effective programs and future equipment needs. Suggests related procedural changes.
    3. Assists and supports the rest of the team as needed.
    4. Prepares reports of activities, records, and other required documents.
    5. Attends and participates in meetings and committees as required.

    5.       Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

     

    1. Stays informed of changes in computer technology.
    2. Keeps work area clean, secure, and well-maintained.
    3. Completes special projects as assigned.
    4. Assists with user moves, deletions, creation, etc. within corporate directory system.
    5. Assists with branch server upgrades and new branch server rollouts.
    6. Patch management for servers.
    7. Installation, management, and configuration of VMware ESX server farms.
    8. Administration of Identity Management systems.
    9. Responds to system alerts and other issues in a timely manner.

    Qualifications

    Training/Education/Certification:

    • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) or equivalent.
    • College degree preferred.
    • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) preferred.
    • VMWare Certified Professional (VCP) preferred
    • Citrix Certified Administrator (CCA) preferred.
    • Valid Driver’s License.

     

    Required Knowledge:

    • Strong understanding of how to administer Windows operating systems.
    • Basic understanding of TCP/IP.
    • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and LDAP.
    • Administration of Application Virtualization systems.
    • SMS, SCCM, or equivalent management systems.
    • Basic understanding of identity management systems.
    • Microsoft File and Print administration.
    • Microsoft IIS and Apache/Tomcat server administration.

     

     Experience Required:

    • Three to five years’ experience administering Windows systems.
    • Three to five years’ experience administering Microsoft IIS and/or Apache/Tomcat servers.
    • One to three years’ experience administering Citrix, App-V, or Application Virtualization.

     

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Well organized, with good verbal and written communications skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and plan projects effectively.
    • Ability to assist others and share knowledge with other team members.
    • Able to use PC, terminal keyboards, and various computer hardware.
